[Chushan Zi Nan Temple]
In Emperor Chia-ching’s Adventures in Taiwan there are anecdotes concerning Lee Yung Temple, Good flavor of small Chushan red yams and Beauties in Mt. Chauching in Chushan area. It is said that Emperor Chiaching traveled to the north and arrived at Sheliao ferry. There is a Lord Temple nearby Sheliao Elementary School believed to worship Generals Cheng and Huang liable for protecting the Emperor perishing here. The both were honored as Lord Cheng and Lord Huang.
The area of Forest elementary school is 2.03 hectares. All the buildings was built in the United States southern pine with United States and Japanese style. To reduce the damage of natural environment, the cunninghamia forest is preserved and walls and trails were built with local stone. Nature is the classroom. It’s the most beautiful elementary school in Xitou.
[Xitou Forest Recreation Area]
Located in Nantou Lugu Town, Xitou Nature Education Area (Xitou Forest Recreation Area) has an altitude of 1,150 meters with an area of 2,500 hectares, and diverse varieties of plants include red Chinese cypresses, ginkgo trees and cypress.It is also an excellent place for bird-watching as more than 7,000 bird species have been spotted in the area. With the average temperature about 16.6 degrees Celsius, it is a popular summer resort in Taiwan.
[Nantou Monster Village (Lunch)]
Nantou Monster Village is a Japanese style village located at the entrance of Xitou Nature Education Area. When you arrive at Nantou Monster Village, a big red “Toril” will instantly grab you attention. Toril is a traditional Japanese gate mostly found at the entrance of the Shinto shrine, which is a symbolic gate between profane to the sacred. After passing the toril, adorable Japanese monster statues and cute creatures can be seen all over the village, as well as red lanterns hung on the eaves.
[Fonghuanggu Bird and Ecology Park]
The 32 hectares of Fonghuanggu Park is the biggest government funded bird and ecology park in Taiwan. For the educational purpose, you will find about 300 different species of birds and total of 3,000 birds in the park and was categorized to different sections. The park provides touring guide for visitors to learn the different species birds and plants, moreover all the bird cages are built along the path, so visitors can watch the birds while stroll around the park.
